Principles of Human-Centric Technology

In late November, we presented our “Principles of Human-Centric Technology,” a framework designed to guide Baufest’s client projects and practices across both software development and consulting.

Principles of Human-Centric Technology

This statement of principles captures our collective vision regarding the why, how, and what behind our work, establishing a clear stance across each of these pillars.

The five principles developed by Baufest were born from a collaborative process that gathered perspectives from our executives, employees, and client organizations. They were also enriched by external insights, including contributions from Valentín Muro—a philosopher specializing in technology and artificial intelligence, who shared his reflections on technology’s role in our lives—and Maëlle Gavet, a tech executive and author who shared her perspective on the need for empathetic technology.

Ethical Commitment

During a collaborative workshop held in late 2019 to draft these principles, Valentín Muro noted that "if technology drives change, and change is not neutral, then technology is not neutral either. We bear a responsibility for what we bring into the world. An ethical commitment with clear responsibilities is essential when developing human-centric technology."

For his part, Baufest CEO Ángel Pérez Puletti highlighted: "Software technologies and solutions evolve and revolutionize our world at a rapid pace. This rate of change directly impacts people and their daily lives—often positively, but sometimes negatively. We firmly believe that the evolution of software technology presents immense opportunities as well as concrete challenges, such as information security, privacy, dependence, and isolation, which we must address consciously."

More Human Technology

The Principles of Human-Centric Technology serve as a roadmap toward building more human technology. In today's experience economy—shaped by digital transformation—tech solutions must be conceived with a clear customer-centric approach aimed at optimizing the customer experience (CX).

Accordingly, our principles are grouped into five core themes: impact, role, stance, function, and attributes.

  • Impact: We recognize that technology is not neutral; it has a transformative effect on people's lives, delivering tremendous benefits while bringing challenges that we must consciously address.
  • Role: As creators of technology solutions, we take responsibility for what we build and innovate responsibly. We seek to connect and empower people through software solutions, respecting diversity and promoting inclusion.
  • Stance: Regarding our position on situations that arise during our work, we assume collective commitments, encourage reflection to help identify challenges and threats, and foster dialogue grounded in mutual respect and support.
  • Function: We aim to center design around people. We believe software technologies should empower and accompany individuals in their challenges, helping make their activities easier, faster, and safer. We are committed to developing software solutions that deliver value to organizations while simplifying tasks for end users. This is the driving force behind our passion for innovation.
  • Attributes: We prioritize digital trust by building secure, accessible technologies where users retain control over their privacy and data.

We believe that reflecting on our craft and the purpose behind what we build enhances the quality of our deliverables. Furthermore, it enables us to share a common direction with our clients, ultimately strengthening our strategic partnerships.
